Mazaber Games Selected for SpielFabrique BRIDGE 2026: Ethiopian Storytelling Heads to the Global Stage
A milestone for our studio and Ethiopian game development as we join the Europe-Africa accelerator cohort
Mazaber Games, an independent game studio based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has been selected for SpielFabrique BRIDGE 2026 — the Europe-Africa games accelerator that has connected African and European studios since 2019. It's a milestone not just for our team, but for Ethiopia's emerging game development scene.
For a studio telling stories rooted in Ethiopia's deep past, joining a cohort designed to connect African creative talent with European co-development partners, publishers, and investors is exactly the kind of bridge we've been working toward.
What is SpielFabrique BRIDGE?
BRIDGE is a selective accelerator run by SpielFabrique, a Düsseldorf-based European games network. The program was created to close the partnership gap between African and European studios: it promotes African independent games in international markets while connecting European studios with new creative talent pools across the continent.
Since 2019, SpielFabrique has supported more than 15 African studios through initiatives like Enter Africa and the African Games Coproduction Market, working alongside partners such as the Goethe-Institut, Xsolla, and Bright Gambit — whose prototype grant has previously helped cohort teams like Juju Games bring cross-continental co-productions to life.
Each BRIDGE cohort selects around ten of the most promising studios from across Africa. What follows is months of structured, hands-on work: one-on-one mentoring with industry experts, business development and pitch refinement, expert webinars, inter-African networking, and cross-continental matchmaking with European studios. The program traditionally culminates with showcases at FEJA in Abidjan — Africa's largest gaming festival — and Games Ground in Berlin, where teams pitch to a global audience of publishers, investors, and industry leaders.
In other words: BRIDGE isn't a certificate program. It's a production and financing runway.
The game we're bringing: Mazaber
Our flagship project, Mazaber, is a wordless atmospheric exploration-adventure set in a mythical reimagining of the pre-Axumite first capital — a chapter of Ethiopian history that global games have never touched.
At its heart is a mechanic we call restoration as navigation: rather than conquering the world, the player heals it. Repairing what was broken is how you move forward — mechanically, visually, and emotionally. If you've loved the quiet grandeur of Journey, the painterly emotion of Gris, or the tactile ascent of Jusant, you already speak Mazaber's language. Our ambition is to bring that same craft to a setting and mythology the medium has never seen.
Ethiopia is one of the oldest continuous civilizations on Earth, with its own script, its own calendar, and three thousand years of stories. Almost none of it has been translated into interactive form. That's not a gap — it's an opening.
Why this matters beyond one studio
Africa's game industry is at an inflection point. SpielFabrique's own African Videogame Industry Report 2026 — produced with the Goethe-Institut and Xsolla — maps a continent of fast-growing indie clusters that share one persistent bottleneck: access to international networks, mentorship, and financing.
That's precisely what BRIDGE addresses, and it's why acceptance matters for the wider Ethiopian ecosystem, not just for us. Ethiopia has an enormous pool of creative and engineering talent, but very few studios have had a direct channel to European publishers and co-producers. We intend to use this one well — and to share what we learn with the developers coming up behind us.
This also connects to the broader work we do at Mazaber.io, our browser gaming platform serving hundreds of thousands of monthly players. The platform taught us what African audiences play; the studio is our answer to what the world hasn't yet played.
What happens next
Over the coming months, our team will be deep in mentoring sessions, refining Mazaber's production and financing strategy, and preparing for cross-continental matchmaking with European studios. We'll be documenting the journey here on the blog — the pitch iterations, the co-development conversations, and eventually, we hope, the stage in Abidjan.
To SpielFabrique and the BRIDGE team: thank you for the confidence. To the other studios in the 2026 cohort: we can't wait to build alongside you.
